Social Media

Each and every day at least 250 million of the 500 million active members log on to communicate with an average 130 friends (per user), that contribute to over 700 billion minutes per month, spent on the worldwide phenomenon know as Facebook.

Even after several viral attempts by groups of likeminded libertarians to make a dent in the absurd masses that the Facebook Empire commands, Facebook users still remain true. The irony behind this is that in order to get the word out about their digital protest these groups used social media, including Facebook.

If the Internet is the greatest globalization...

Design, Usability

Most of us will find that today’s websites can be way too difficult to use. They can be overcrowded with irrelevant information, large advertisements and confusing functionality. When visiting any new website I want to navigate and find the information I need as simple and as quickly as possible.
If you were to open a news web site you will get bombarded with alot of images, small text and advertisements floating around everywhere on the page (I’m looking at you, Herald Sun), this is a great example of a website that wants to do too much, too quickly.
Many websites force themselves to make money through many pushy...

e-commerce, etailing, fashion, fashion websites, online retail

What a long way electronic commerce has come in 10 years  - it’s now called ‘e-tailing’, ‘web shops’ and ‘e-boutiques’ in 2010!

“Ecommerce” in the late 1990s was a term used to describe electronic transactions, mostly transacted “b2b”– usually managed by procurement officers for large companies.
Reverse auctions, procurement hubs and supply chain transactions were all considered ‘e-commerce’.  Prior to this, EDI (electronic data interchange), introduced in the 1970s, was (and still is ) used by many large businesses to conduct trade electronically by sending purchase orders and invoices mapped according to...

Putting together your own in house social media team can be surprisingly hard. Well, let me rephrase that... Putting together your own effective in house social media team can be surprisingly hard. So here are my tips on putting together your social media team...

1. Internal or External?

The first and...

Marketing, Small Business, Tips

There are many small businesses on the web (and not on the web..hurry up and get on here!) that want to market their business to customers but are afraid of the costs. I’m here to let you know that there are a lot of cheap and even some free avenues of Marketing that can be used on the web.

Issue one: Email Marketing

Email marketing is the fastest growing and most widely used form of Marketing online. It is a basic form of direct marketing, similar to the dinosaur methods of the past just as direct mail, catalogue drops and general ‘Junk Mail’. This is the letter box drop of the 21st century,...

Ramblings

Have you ever sent an email or an instant message or a status update only to look at it later and cringe at your own misspelllongs? To avoid it, literally, watch what you're doing.

I hate spell-checkers. Hate them. I hate them with a fury that burns white-hot like the blazing infernos of Hades. If you are so desperate to avoid having to use your education why not just stick a spoon in your ear, scoop out part of your brain, pop it in an envelope and send it to Microsoft to look after. I hate them.

Spell checkers are the Osama Bin Laden of software packages. If your computer has one then sooner or later you will end...

Social Media, Twitter

Twitter is valuable tool to broadcast snippets of news, fun facts, links and the ability to connect and engage with clients, partners and other businesses. The real value from Twitter will only be apparent once you start using it. It can be a useful way to take the temperature of the market, an immediate medium through which to respond to client feedback, an easy way to drive traffic to your site provided you have engaging content. Twitter encourages informal language, thanks to the 140 character limit Like all tools, there are appropriate ways to use it, and inappropriate ways. Case in point Stephanie Rice. Whilst not...
